She began the practice of Wu Style Taichi Chuan and Qigong in 1998 under the guidance of Robert Dixon of the International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Federation, and since 2013 has been continuing her training at an advanced level with Sifu Gary Wragg at the Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Academy in Bethnal Green, London. She has been helping people who wish to explore and balance their body, mind and spirit through the arts of Tai Chi Chuan, Qigong and meditation. She welcomes learners of all levels of experience.
What is Tai Chi Chuan?
Tai Chi Chuan is the embodiment in physical exercise of the ancient Chinese philosophy of Taichi, which describes the universe and all it contains as the harmony of complementary opposites, the Yin and the Yang. The movements are slow and gentle, fluid and circular, and have the purpose of developing internal strength. Through the practices of stillness and movement, fullness and emptiness, and opening and closing, one can improve one’s body-mind awareness and help balance one’s overall health.
Tai Chi Chuan is suitable all ages. Beginners learn basic movements and forms, and gradually master these through regular practice. With progress, one learns to synchronize breath and movement, and develops an understanding of the internal energy known as Qi.
What is Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan?
Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan was founded by Master Wu Chuan Yau in China in the late 19th century and has been handed down in the Wu family over five generations. The practice favours movement in small circles, single-weightedness in upright and oblique postures, and internal energy development through proper coordinated breathing, relaxation, awareness and body movement.
What is Qigong?
Qigong is a system of coordinated body postures and movement with breathing. With roots in Chinese medicine, Daoist philosophy and martial arts, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance the body and mind. With its standing posture and movements synchronised with the breath, qigong can cultivate the body’s vital energy in order to maintain good health, and calmness and clarity of mind. Qigong can be practiced by itself or as a part of a Tai Chi Chuan training.
